About the Rockin A Ranch
Scott and Holly along with their 2 Kids Matt and Kira moved to San Martin, and established the Rockin A Ranch in 1996. They both grew up in Idaho, Scott spent his summers, while growing up, working on the family’s homestead. Holly spent her summers working at the racetrack as an assistant trainer, and later became a Veterinary Technician. When work took them and their family to San Jose California it was, to say the least, a culture shock… Small town folk in a big city. Though they slowly acclimated to the change, they still felt crowded and certainly not at 'Home'. So they began the search for some roots. They soon found themselves in San Martin, on a 4-acre ranch that instantly felt like home. “OK,” they thought, “Now that we found it, what do we do with it?” Well, since Scott knew beef cattle and Holly knew horses, they decided to raise cattle and board horses. It didn’t take long to figure out that 4 acres are not enough room for cattle. They found that it was too hard on the land and too much work just trying to keep the fences in repair, because unlike Alpacas, cows do challenge fencing. So, out with the cows. Then one afternoon a friend spoke of another who had invested in Alpacas. He spoke of all the advantages to raising them, it sounded intriguing, so the search for information was on. It didn’t take long before they knew that this was it! The ease of care, the minimal maintenance cost, the size of the alpaca, along with their “earth friendly” nature, made them a perfect match. Not to mention that they were so adorable, that at first sight they were head over heals in love! Try saying that about a cow… They started their herd with 3 Females & 1 Male in the fall of 2001, and now have 9 Huacaya and 3 Suri alpacas & agist 19 more. With 7 crias due in 2007, It's going to be another exciting year! Scott still works in retail management, and Holly runs the ranch with the help of their daughter Kira. We offer Agistment, both Buyer and Sellers agent services, and of course Mentoring.
